Technique:

1. Place your lips on the body end of the call.
2. Use your finger and thumb to form a seal around the open end of the extendable tube; this will allow you to use your hand to help control the volume.
3. Blow lightly with a short burst of air; this will produce the contact or social grunt. 

To produce the rutting/trailing grunt use more air to increase the volume and make short bursts putting 5-7 short grunts in succession like a buck following a doe. To produce the growl increase your volume even more and carry the grunt out in one long low grunt that starts low and increases in volume and pitch.
